How it Works
1. Complete Your Training
You’ll be provided with a set of short, focused training videos covering safe use of topical anesthetics, contraindications, proper application techniques, and Michigan DHHS regulatory requirements.
2. Receive Your Certificate of Delegation
After completing the training, you’ll receive an official Certificate of Delegation under our medical oversight, authorizing you to apply topical anesthetics during procedures.
3. Client Prescription Evaluation
Your client will need to be evaluated for prescriptions for 5% lidocaine cream (Preparation H) and 4% topical lidocaine spray (Bactine Max) prior to their appointment. If approved, their prescriptions will be emailed to them and automatically stored in your secure artist folder on StudioMeds for easy reference.
4. Apply Medications During Appointments
Once delegated, and once your client has their prescription on file, you may apply 5% lidocaine cream and 4% lidocaine spray during their tattoo or permanent makeup appointment. As a delegated artist, you can maintain these over-the-counter medications in your studio if you choose, so clients are not required to purchase them themselves. This ensures a smoother, more comfortable, and fully compliant experience.
5. Complete the Anesthetic Use Log
You’ll have access to a digital “anesthetic use” log—required by the state for any appointment in which topical anesthetic is applied. Once completed, this log is automatically saved in the client’s folder under your account.
Compliance
StudioMeds handles all Michigan DHHS documentation requirements on your behalf. Under your personal StudioMeds account, we securely store and maintain your Certificate of Delegation, each client’s dated prescriptions, and every completed anesthetic use log. All documents are organized for you and can be accessed at any time, making ongoing compliance effortless and audit-ready.

Every delegated artist receives a unique QR code and digital link that can be shared directly with their clients.
