Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@studiomeds.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Why does StudioMeds exist?

In September 2025, Michigan updated its body art rules. Topical anesthetics, including over-the-counter products, now require a prescription from a Michigan-licensed physician, and that prescription has to be documented in your client record. StudioMeds makes getting one fast and affordable so you can still use numbing products and your artist stays compliant. Full MDHHS rules here.

Does StudioMeds cover permanent eyeliner or lip blush?

Not currently. Eyeliner and lip blush use a different category of professional in-procedure numbing products that aren't part of our current prescription. We're developing a separate prescription option specifically for lip blush and permanent eyeliner artists. Launching soon.

Is this legitimate?

Yes. Every prescription is reviewed and issued by a Michigan-licensed physician. Same standards as any telehealth visit: ID verification, medical intake, physician review. Your prescription is real and your artist can accept it with confidence.

Who are you?

A married couple. A tattoo artist/shop owner, and a telemedicine physician, who built this for her shop when the new rules hit, then opened it up to the rest of Michigan's body art community.

Do I need to go to a pharmacy?

No. The prescribed products, Bactine Max Spray and Aspercreme with 4% lidocaine, are sold over the counter. Pick them up anywhere: Walmart, Amazon, your local drug store. But the prescriptions can be filled at a pharmacy if you choose.

Do I need a new prescription for each session?

Yes. Per the state regulations, one prescription per procedure. Your artist is required to keep documentation for each appointment.

How long does it take?

Most prescriptions are emailed within a few hours. Submit at least a day before your appointment to be safe.

What if I'm not a candidate? Will I be refunded?

If your medical history means you're not a candidate for a telemedicine evaluation, we'll recommend seeing an in-person provider. You won't be charged. Payment is only collected after you complete the intake and are cleared to proceed.

What do I bring to my appointment?

A copy of your prescriptions (printed or on your phone) and the medications. Your artist keeps the prescription on file. That's a Michigan requirement.

Do you ship the medication?

We don't. You can buy the medications wherever is most convenient for you. We provide the medical evaluation and physician prescription for documentation.

Who can use StudioMeds?

Anyone 18 or older who is getting a body art procedure in the state of Michigan.
