Michigan Tattoo

Built by a tattoo artist. For tattoo artists.

Michigan's prescription rule applies to every tattoo session. We handle the medical side so it doesn't slow down your shop.

The Process

How it works for your shop

  1. 1

Send your client to studiomeds.com before their appointment. We give you a blurb you can copy. See below.

  2. 2

    They complete the online evaluation.

  3. 3

A Michigan-licensed physician reviews it and emails their prescription, usually within a few hours.

  4. 4

They bring the prescription and the medications (Bactine Max Spray and Aspercreme with 4% lidocaine, both over the counter) to their appointment. You file with their paperwork.

No catch

Free for shops. Clients pay $35 flat.

Why some artists use it

For the clients who ask

Some of your clients will ask about numbing. For the ones who do, this handles the prescription side without adding any work to your day.

Calmer sessions, fewer breaks, less tap-outs.

Copy this into your booking confirmation, intake reminder, or DM. Keeps it short and avoids the awkward at-the-chair conversation.

Heads up: Michigan now requires a doctor's prescription for any numbing during your tattoo appointment. We use StudioMeds. Quick online eval, $35, prescription emailed in a few hours. Get yours before you come in: studiomeds.com

The Fine Print

  • · Prescription required for any numbing agent, including over-the-counter products applied by the client.
  • · One prescription per session. New session, new prescription.
  • · Medications can be purchased over the counter (Walmart, Amazon, drug store). The rule requires the prescription, not the pharmacy.
  • · You're required to keep the prescription on file for every appointment.
